How did you get in to recruitment?

I was in sales for a number of years but knew people in recruitment and it sounded like a really interesting role. I saw it as an opportunity to build on my existing experience whilst learning new skills. My first job in recruitment was sales recruitment so there was an obvious transition from my previous roles.

What was your dream job as a child?

Astronaut or Fireman. I was, and still am, really interested in all things space so the opportunity to go up there would have been amazing. Turns out its not that easy though. My Dad was a Fireman and I always thought what he did was amazing. As I got older the thought of running into burning buildings became less attractive.

How do you commute?

When I’m working in Glasgow, I get the bus and the train. We have opened an Edinburgh office now, so it’s just a bus ride and I’m into work.

What does a typical day look like?

It’s a cliché but no two days look the same. Sometimes, you need to find people for specific roles, other times you have met an absolutely brilliant person and you can’t wait to let the market know about them. A client can call in with an urgent or hard to find job or needs advice on the state of the market and everything in between. It is a very varied role!

What’s the best part of your job?

There really is no better feeling than telling someone they have got the job. Recruitment can be a tough and unforgiving job, but helping someone like that is rewarding, and if they have a job offer it means a happy client. Every job offer is really a double win.

What’s been your biggest success so far?

Becoming a homeowner. I watch the news and see all these people struggling to get on the property ladder and I’m just glad I’ve been able to find a house that I love.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Spend time with my family, eat and drink too much, watch sports or a movie

What is most important to you?

My family. I have a 4-year-old son who means the world to me (when he’s not throwing tantrums).

Describe yourself in three words.

Hard-working, honest, loyal.
